West Point Grey

West Point Grey is an affluent neighbourhood along English Bay, west of Alma Street to the UBC campus  extending as far south as West 16th Avenue. Point Grey is named for Captain George Grey, a close friend of Captain George Vancouver, and has gorgeous, well-kept houses close to the English Bay waterfront near the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. Many homes in West Point Grey have spectacular views of downtown, the Pacific Ocean and the North Shore Mountains. The neighbourhood is close to the UBC University Hospital, and other campus facilities.

Homes
West Point Grey has a range of single-family homes, including many older homes from before the 1960s, with the larger and more expensive ones closer to English Bay. There are also a number of apartment buildings and basement suites that rent out to university students.

Shopping
Point Grey residents shop along West 10th Avenue which has a great selection of restaurants, bookstores, and boutiques.

Recreation
The neighbourhood is adjoining several beaches including Spanish Banks, Locarno Beach, and Jericho Beach. The community is close to Pacific Spirit Park in the University Endowment Lands just beside the neighbourhood. Of special interest is the 2,000 year old Camosun Bog , with an entrance to the Bog boardwalks (Camosun and W 19th Ave).

UBC has a number of outstanding facilities, including a Gym, a pool, and ice arena, Thunderbird Stadium, a library, and the Museum of Anthropology.

Schools
This community is served by 3 elementary schools, a public library, and a secondary school. It is adjoining University of British Columbia's sprawling campus.
