Gastown

This neighbourhood just east of downtown's core is full of heritage buildings and cobblestone streets, and is a popular tourist destination. Residents tend to be young, urban artists and professionals, with an increase in lower income earners as you move east toward the "East Hastings" district.

Homes
This neighbourhood has a mix of walk-up apartments, lofts, condominiums and studio warehouses.

Shopping
This neighbourhood has a mix of furnishing and design shops as well as those targeting tourists. The shopping downtown and in Chinatown is pretty close by. The neighbourhood has lots of popular restaurants and bars along Water and Powel Streets.

Recreation
This neighbourhood has a number of small parks, but Portside Park on the water has excellent views of the harbour and the North Shore Mountains. Gastown is also home of the Storyeum attractions and Vancouver's only steam-powered clock. Also close-by are the SeaBus terminal to the North Shore, and Stanley Park.

Also close by are the indoor pursuits at BC Place Stadium, GM Place, The Plaza of Nations, and Science World as well as the city's various performance theatres.

Schools
The neighbourhood has no schools but is close to the downtown public library. Both Simon Fraser University and BCIT have downtown campuses.
